Retrospective analysis of congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction outcomes in a tertiary referral center

Summary Background The aim of this study was to profile patients with simple and complex congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction (CNLDO) determine the success rates interventions at a third-level referral center. Methods In retrospective comparative study, medical records CNLDO were reviewed. Demographic data, types CNLDO, surgical approach, type silicone intubation, as well outcome recorded up 3 months after intervention. Obstruction location identified by probing irrigation following American Academy Ophthalmology (AAO) approach. Success calculated for treatment approach age group. Results Based on 130 eyes overall rate 96%. mean 2.5 ± 2.2 months; 73% cases 27% CNLDO. Five children had undergo reoperation; consequently, there lower in (91%) than subgroup (97%). There male predominance (61.5%), which also present subgroups. most frequent complete (NLDO, 55.4%), followed partial (17.7%) bony NLDO (11.5%). 87% eyes, initial performed dacryocystorhinostomy (10%). Mono- or bi-canalicular lacrimal drainage system intubation used 86% eyes. Conclusion AAO-based diagnostic an individualized regimen yielded excellent 96% unselected These independent patient gender.
